In very simple terms, a thrombosed hemorrhoid can be described a medical problem in which the veins in the anus and rectum get swollen and engorged with blood. These veins protrude outwards, cause pain and discomfort and in some cases bleed. Generally, this is not really dangerous. However, like all medical conditions, it is best to carry out treatment so that matters do not get complicated. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are caused by sitting down for long periods of time, lack of exercise and straining during bowel movement.

Fortunately, the condition can be treated quite easily. In some cases, the condition can go away on its own after a while. In cases where the condition persists, it can be treated by a simple surgical process. This involves making a cut and squeezing out the blood clots. This is a relatively simple procedure and it does not require the patient to get hospitalized. In some other cases, the thrombosed hemorrhoid can be treated by using a procedure called a hemorrhoidectomy. In this case, a more complicated surgical procedure is carried out and this leads to better results for the patient. Finally, it has to be pointed out that treating a hemorrhoid by unqualified people is extremely dangerous and may lead to serious complications.
